Adam Wells was the co-founder and MD of the Belazu Ingredient Company, a leading UK-based Mediterranean food company. With school friend George Bennell, Adam established the company (originally The Fresh Olive Company) in 1991, growing it from a specialist olive importer to a major food manufacturer and distributor supplying both the foodservice sector and retail markets.
Adam in particular led the development of a range of structures and processes at the company covering all aspects of supply chain, a multi-faceted manufacturing facility, distribution, product development, sales and marketing. He was also instrumental in developing meaningful CSR initiatives and the culture of a business that successfully nurtured and motivated a team of 220 from over 40 different countries.
The Belazu Foundation, where Adam remains a trustee, is the charitable arm of the company. The foundation supports food health and educational projects for children and families in the UK and around the Mediterranean. The foundation has partnered with organisations like the Zakoura Foundation in Morocco and Chefs in Schools in the UK to deliver impactful programmes in education, nutrition, and community support.
Since leaving the business in 2021, Adam has been a Non Exec and hands-on Angel Investor for a range of start-ups in the food sector.
While in Cambridge, Adam is seeking to explore whether capitalism can evolve to be fairer and more inclusive, and why previous movements to make it fairer have not been more impactful.
