Andrew has spent his career working primarily in leadership roles in England’s National Health Service (NHS). He was Chief Executive of an NHS Trust in London for 6 years, and has been in national leadership roles, having been Regional Director for the NHS across the South of England, and latterly the London region during the last year of the Covid pandemic. He is currently an advisor to the NHS England Board, The Casey Commission on Adult Social Care, a non-executive director of an Integrated Care Board, and advisor to several small companies that operate in the health care market. Andrew studied Economics and Social and Political Sciences at the University of Cambridge, and subsequently gained his MBA through the Open University. He spent a year in the United States to examine the strengths and weaknesses in American Healthcare through a Harkness Fellowship. He is particularly passionate about equality in healthcare and providing better health care for deprived and marginalised communities, especially in non-institutional settings such as the communities in which people live. While in Cambridge Andrew is exploring how we can drive better value in provision of health and care services, including the strategic allocation of resources in health care systems, use of new technologies (digital, AI and pharmaceutical) and potentially emergent humanoid robotics.
