In over three decades in international development, he has served in international organizations, scientific and academic institutions, and in the public sector, cutting through red tape and “getting things done” – from the Office of the President of Mexico to the “bottom of the pyramid” in some of the world’s most destitute regions.
Mario’s recent positions include: Senior Advisor at the US Agency for International Development (USAID) where he helped manage the Agency’s response to Ebola; Vice-President and Director of Knowledge Management at the Academy for Educational Development; Lead Social Development Communications at the World Bank; and Advisor to the Director of the Getty Conservation Institute. Before this Mario’s first career was in broadcasting where he managed educational programming for young audiences at Televisa, one of the largest media conglomerates in Latin America, and became Deputy Producer for the first international version of Sesame Street. He collaborated on the creation of the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana, helping pioneer distance learning in Mexico.
While in Cambridge, Mario will be looking into new educational technologies that address the demographic changes, smart cities and urban design, and rapid-capacity building to take advantage of nearshoring opportunities.
